What Pet to Get? by Emma Dodd (2008)

Jack and his mom weigh out the pros and cons of getting a number of non-traditional pets. The giant illustrations alone make What Pet to Get? a natural fit for storytimes, but its humor also hits hard with the 4 + crowd. The book lends itself to vocabulary building; while most of the words will be known to the children, there are a sprinkling of words that can be discussed while reading the book, such as "absentmindedly", "practical", and "extinct" .
